Hints, Tips & Tricks for Microsoft Windows (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows Explorer)
Keyboard Shortcuts (example of how this works: hold the Ctrl key and tap the character 'N')
- Ctrl + N = New File
- Ctrl + O = Open File
- Ctrl + W = Close File
- Ctrl + S = Save File
- Ctrl + P = Print File
- Ctrl + Z = Undo last action
- Ctrl + X = Cut
- Ctrl + C = Copy
- Ctrl + V = Paste
- Ctrl + A = Select All
Select Multiple Files
There are three ways to select multiple files in the Windows Explorer environment, or to open multiple files in Word, Excel or PowerPoint:
- To select multiple files that are not adjacent to each other:
click on the 1st file, then hold the Ctrl key, then click on the 2nd file, if you need more files selected, continue doing the same again: hold the Ctrl key and click on the next file.
- To select a group of files that are listed one after the other:
click on the file at the top of the list, then hold the Shift key then click on the last file in the list.
- To select all the files - hold the Ctrl key and tap the letter 'A'
Options for Multiple Files
When you have selected multiple files, you can print them, open them, move or copy them all at once.
- Right click on one of the selected (highlighted) files and then choose the action you require.
